The Electric Wall
After a short test ride in the courtyard, we hum off on our E-lephants to Mauer Park. What used to be part of the “death strip” of the Berlin Wall is now a wonderful gathering point for Berliners and visitors of all ages. The remnants of the Berlin Wall are now a playground for graffiti artists. The next stop is Bernauer Strasse, which was the stage for many spectacular and dramatic escape attempts out of building windows bordering to the West. At the official memorial site we take a look at one of the remaining stretches of the “death strip” – an original section of the No Mans Land and its watchtower. From there it’s just a skip, hop and a jump away from the Spandauer Shipping Canal with the memorial to Günter Litfin and the only remaining Berlin guard tower. Along the canal and past beautiful cemeteries we roll by the Government District, before we effortlessly set off home via Berlin’s gallery street and squatted and artists collective houses.
